JERNIGAN FURNITURE CO. has been known for its integrity, honesty and impeccable service for three generations.

Sam Jernigan, Sr. started in the furniture business in 1924 as a salesman for another high quality, reputable furniture dealer in Goldsboro, N.C. Beginning in 1928, he and his partner, Marion Edwards, opened two locations of Edwards and Jernigan Furniture Co.; one on Mulberry Street in Goldsboro. N.C., and another in Durham, N.C. The Durham location was sold in the early 1950's when the Jernigan family moved back to Wayne County from Durham, N.C., and opened a new furniture company in 1956, called Sam Jernigan and Sons Furniture.

Sam Jernigan, Sr.'s sons, Sam Jernigan Jr. and Ed Jernigan, came into the business in 1956 and they ran it as a team until 1986. The third generation and current owner, Sam Jernigan, III, came into the business after 20 years in the cable television business and the name of the company changed in 1986 to Jernigan Furniture Co.

The company has always been known as a high quality furniture store in eastern North Carolina. It has stylish, cutting edge furniture with the latest looks and fashions. Jernigan Furniture discounts it's products on average between 20%-50% off manufacturers suggested retail prices depending on the manufacturer.

Jernigan Furniture offers special ordering and customization. For example, if customers want to put a particular style of fabric on a specific style of sofa, they can find the fabric in the store and have it custom made within four to eight weeks in most cases. The company also offers a complete line of accessories and occassionals; specializing in rugs, mirrors, pictures, lamps, floral arrangements and other home accessories.

Jernigan Furniture, has a staff of employees that have been working for the company as long as 39 years. They do business with over 100 furniture and accessory lines and have contacts with friends and other furniture companies, inside the industry. If the store does not have a specific item that you are looking for, they will go out and find it and either make it available or tell you where you can find it.

The employees are active in public, civic and cultural events in the Goldsboro community and in Wayne County. They pride themselves on having personal, one-on-one relationships with their customers.
